Enjoy this easy, kid-approved Nutella-stuffed French toast hot off the griddle – it’s like a breakfast dessert that the whole family will devour!
This Nutella-Stuffed French Toast recipe is truly a family favorite in our home. When the weather gets chilly, I love enjoying it with a warm cup of tea; it’s my cozy morning ritual. The kids absolutely adore it too! It’s one of those breakfast treats that feels indulgent without being overly sweet. If you’re like me and prefer your French toast on the less-sweet side, spread a thinner layer of Nutella — it’s still just as delicious! For a fresh finish, try topping it with sliced bananas , blueberries , or strawberries .
Brioche (or challah ) works beautifully here because its buttery, eggy texture soaks up the custard without falling apart. The egg mixture is simple with a blend of eggs, sweetened condensed milk for extra creaminess, warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and a touch of vanilla. Once the French toast is golden and crisp, I love finishing each stack with a pat of butter that melts right in. The result is an indulgent yet easy French toast that kids and adults absolutely enjoys!

Lightly coat all sides of the bread with the custard mixture — you don’t need to soak it completely. This recipe works best when the custard forms just a thin layer on the outside. Make sure your pan is preheated and ready before dipping; that way, you can go straight from dip to fry for the perfect golden crust.
It’s easiest to cook all four pieces of French toast at once if your pan is large enough. Just keep a close eye on them as they cook, flipping each one as needed to ensure they brown evenly on both sides.
Placing a fresh butter pat on top right after cooking not only adds flavor but also helps the toast steam slightly from above, keeping it soft and gooey inside.
Bread: Brioche is perfect, but you can use any sturdy bread. I love to use multi-grain bread sometimes when I’m going for a more “health-conscious” option. Also Sourdough or challah works great too. For a creative twist, try stuffing French toast made from croissants or sweet dinner rolls. Avoid very thin white sandwich bread (it tends to get soggy) .
Filling: If you don't have Nutella you can also try peanut butter .
Toppings: Besides the traditional powdered sugar and syrup, you can also serve with whipped cream or maple butter. Fresh fruits (bananas, strawberries, raspberries) complement the Nutella beautifully.
Cooked Nutella French toast is best enjoyed immediately, but you can refrigerate any leftovers. Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3–4 days. To reheat, warm briefly in the microwave or a skillet; you can also pop slices in a 350°F oven for about 5–10 minutes until heated through.
For longer storage, freeze the cooled slices: lay them flat on a baking sheet until firm, then transfer to a freezer bag. Reheat frozen French toast by baking at 350°F for 8–10 minutes (no need to thaw first).
